Conklin History
The community known as Conklin was first settled in 1854 by Ananias J. Peugh. Over the subsequent decades, Oscar F. Conklin’s entrepreneurship and advocacy put Conklin on the map with the West Chester Depot on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad.
With the Conklin post office established in 1887, the community became formally known as Conklin.
Soon after, a school was built, followed by the Congregational Church (now the Conklin Reformed Church), several businesses, utilities, and an organized fire department.
Today, Conklin’s Main Street still serves as its community hub, surrounded by traditional homes from the turn of the 20th century.
